Misdee Wrigley Miller is perhaps best known to this audience as a Saddlebred competitor, but she also has deep roots in the driving world as well. She fell in love with the sport when she inherited two of her Great-grandfather’s carriages in the mid-1990’s, and has been driving and collecting carriages ever since.
When she was asked to join the Governor’s Advisory Committee for the Combined Driving Event at the Kentucky 2010 WEG, she began competing in that discipline as well. Fast forward to the World Equestrian Games in 2018, she helped Team USA win its first Gold Medal in that event, and, in doing so, became the first woman to win Gold in Combined Driving at the World Equestrian Games.
Jill Ryder comes from a family of horse and carriage enthusiasts. As the daughter of Tom Ryder, a carriage and driving expert and published author, Jill has spent her life around carriage horses.
Jill has worked for The Carriage Association of America (with its headquarters at the Kentucky Horse Park for 39 years) and has been editor of The Carriage Journal magazine since 1990. She serves on the USEF Carriage Pleasure Driving committee and is a past member of the American Driving Society’s Pleasure Driving committee.
Katie Whaley has been driving for more than 40 years. She has been pinned Grand Champion at Devon and at Walnut Hill, she represented the US at multiple Pony World Championships, and she has been both National Pony four-in-hand champion, 4 time National Pair Pony ,and 2 time National single horse champion. She is also a respected driving judge.
